My name is Megan and my whole life I have been looking for the secret to being fit and of course wanting to be skinny…… well I finally figured it out! Elektra Fitness made me realize that it’s about getting your butt to the gym, working hard and eating clean.
I have never been someone who has enjoyed playing sports or being active and growing up the only real physical activity I did was roller blading or riding my bike. Over the years I had gained weight and my sister (Christine) had always tried to encourage me and drag me to the gym or to boot camps with her. I always had an excuse or I was too busy. In 2010 I had finally agreed to join a 6 week boot camp with Christine. During the 6 weeks I had committed myself to eating healthy and doing some of my own little workouts outside of the boot camp. I was 150lb to begin with and I had the won the “Biggest Transformation Challenge” losing 16 inches and a total of 20 pounds. I was so happy and proud of myself but shortly after, I went right back to eating all the things I enjoyed and didn’t keep up with exercise or healthy eating. This lead me to gaining all that weight back, feeling disappointed in myself and realizing that I had just thrown all that hard work out the window.
My sister had since then, kept trying to encourage me to go for walks, working out and eat healthy and I felt like it was just too hard or again, I always had an excuse to not join her. So in October 2012, I went to put on a pair of track pants (those nice comfy baggy pants) and they were so tight on me, I couldn’t believe it. This was a big wake up call for me. I decided again to join another 6 week boot camp and this time set some goals for myself. I attended boot camp once a week and I committed to doing my own workouts 2-3 times a week and I eliminated all junk food, pop, juice and alcohol. This was such a hard commitment but I knew that if I didn’t do this, that nothing would change for myself. After 4 months of eating healthy and exercising regularly, I had finally lost 30 pounds. I have since continued to eat healthy, exercise regularly and I feel like I am in the best shape of my life.
Christine has taught me the importance of eating healthy, exercise and commitment. You do it for yourself and for no one else and your hard work will pay off. It has been an emotional journey as well and she has always been there for me.
